Francis J. Herron, 71, of California, Pa., died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001. He was born Sept. 14, 1930, in Marianna, Pa., son of the late Joseph and Louise (Frederick) Herron. Fran was a graduate of Trinity High School, California State College, and the University of Pittsburgh. In 1951, he was the Quarterback of the Pythian Bowl Championship Team at Cal State. He was a former professor and football coach at California University of Pennsylvania, and a member of Emeriti Association of California University of Pennsylvania. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 48 years, Marlene Sepesy Herron; daughters, Laynee Herron Timlin and husband, Ed of Virginia Beach and Amy Herron O'Donnell and husband, Kevin of Potomac, Md.; sons, Mark F. Herron and wife, Michelle of Scenery Hill, Pa., and Stephen J. Herron of Atlanta, Ga., and daughter-in-law, Kim Macalak Herron of Fayetteville, Ga.; brothers, M. Carl Herron of Upper St. Clair, and James P. Herron of Virginia Beach; a sister, Margaret L. Pecuch of Langhorne, Pa.; and 10 grandchildren, Matthew Herron, Mandie Herron Ventura, Bryce and Grant Herron, Meghan, Blaire and Kyle Timlin and Kelsey, Ryan and Brynn O'Donnell. Friends will be received in the MARISCOTTI FUNERAL HOME INC., Anthony N. Mariscotti, Supervisor, 323 Fourth St., California, Pa., on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m., on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Friday at 10 a.m., when a blessing service will be held, followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian burial in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, with the Rev. Fr. Ed Litavec as celebrant. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery.
