Odenton, Md. and Hallwood, Va., Formerly of Springdale

Mark S. Simko, 51, of Odenton, Md., and Hallwood Va., formerly of Springdale, died Thursday, March 31, 2011, in the Willows of Presbyterian Senior Care, Oakmont, following a brief battle with cancer. He was born Nov. 13, 1959, in Springdale, to Gabriel and Irene Bragiel Simko. Mr. Simko was a 1977 graduate of Springdale High School and a 1981 graduate of Penn State with a Bachelor of Science degree in aerospace engineering. Mark was employed as an aerospace engineer for Kratos Defense in Glen Burnie, Md., where he conducted performance analysis for sounding rockets. He previously worked for 25 years at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Facilities Wallops Island, Va. Mark enjoyed golf, photography, barbeques and traveling to Hawaii. Survivors include his parents, of Springdale; four brothers, Robert, of Springdale, Daniel (Debra) Simko, of Acme, Ronald (Marianne) Simko, of Atlantic, Va., and David (Lisa) Simko, of New Castle; three nieces, Elizabeth, Rachel and Valerie Simko; and three nephews, Benjamin, Michael and Matthew Simko. He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Paul and Zuzanna Hajduk Simko; and maternal grandparents, John and Victoria Slahtovsky Bragiel. Family and friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Springdale at the CHARLES B. JARVIE FUNERAL HOME INC., 801 Pittsburgh St. Panachida services at 9:15 a.m. Monday followed by Divine Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Ss. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, Tarentum, by the Rev. Wesley Mash officiating with burial to follow in Deer Creek Cemetery, Harmar Township. Parastas service at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. A memorial celebration will be held Friday, April 29, 2011, on the Eastern Shore of Maryland at Great Hope Golf Course Westover, Md.
