McGarrity , James E. 92

Brackenridge

James E. McGarrity, 92, of Brackenridge, died Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at West Haven Nursing Home, Washington Township. He was born Aug. 3, 1918, in Oak Ridge, Pa., a son of the late Thomas J. McGarrity and Helen M. (Hetrick) McGarrity, and lived most of his life in Brackenridge. James was a glass worker for PPG Industries, Creighton, retiring in 1977. He was also a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Brackenridge. He was a member of Brackenridge American Legion Post 226 and Tarentum VFW Post 5758. After his retirement, he worked for a time at Alcoa Research in security and worked at Oregon Hunting and Fishing Club in Brackenridge. James enjoyed hunting and fishing and taking care of his pets. Survivors include his son, Jerry Lee McGarrity, of Euclid, Calif.; daughters, Marla (Rocco) Buffone, of Greensburg, and Ann M. (Donald) Buterbaugh, of Lower Burrell, with whom he made his home; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; stepsons, Paul A. Wyble Jr., of Tarentum, Harry A. Wyble, of Arnold, and Larry W. Wyble, of Penn Hills; stepdaughter, Sandra L. Charity, of El Paso, Texas; seven stepgrandchildren; 18 stepgreat-grandchildren; and sisters, Betty Thomas, of Hawthorne, Pa., and Rose Kube, of Oak Ridge. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marian E. (Rosborough) McGarrity, 2007; son, Ronald J. McGarrity; five brothers, Charles, John, Robert, Dale and Thomas McGarrity; and two sisters, Helen Miles and Ilene McGuire. Relatives and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the DUSTER FUNERAL HOME INC., Tenth Avenue at Corbet Street, Tarentum, 724-224-1526, where services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday by his niece, the Rev. Carol E. Brown, pastor at Putneyville and New Salem United Methodist Churches. Burial will be in Mt.
