Linko Sr. , Michael J. 70


Michael J. Linko Sr., 70, of Latrobe, died Tuesday, May 29, 2012, in UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh. He was born April 1, 1942, in Connellsville, a son of the late Michael and Helen Szabo Linko. Mr. Linko was a graduate of the former Dunbar Township High School, class of 1960, later graduated from California University of Pennsylvania in 1985 and studied for his master's degree at Steubenville University. Throughout his life, he continued his education, especially studying foreign languages. He was a veteran of the Air Force. Mr. Linko was employed in management for the Anchor Hocking Corp. working in Weirton, W.Va., Baltimore, Md., and later for the Newell Corporation in New Jersey. He later worked for the Watson Standard Co. in Pittsburgh. He was a member of St. Stephen's Byzantine Catholic Church in Leisenring. Among his hobbies, Michael enjoyed photography, golfing and watching golf, baseball, hockey, especially the Penguins, and the Steelers. He and his wife loved to travel. He also greatly enjoyed teaching his kids and grandkids to play baseball. He is survived by his wife, Judy Detwiler Linko; three children, Melanie Lampe and her husband, Randy, of Mason, Ohio, Michael Linko Jr. and his wife, Annette, of Montebello, N.Y., and Sherri Gigliotti and her husband, Chris, of Dover, Del.; six grandchildren, Christina Lampe, Jacob Gigliotti, Jack Linko, Tucker Linko, Alayna Gigliotti and Hannah Lampe; one brother, David Lawrence Linko and his wife, Linda, of Monarch; a sister-in-law , who was like a sister to him, Nancy Sanner and her daughter, Arla Huff and her husband, Dick, of Connellsville; and his special friends, Marilyn and Dale "Fuzz" Taylor, of Bryan, Ohio. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, where a Panahida service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, followed by the Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. in St. Stephen's Byzantine Catholic Church, Leisenring, with the Rev.
