Carney, Retired Master Sgt. , Bernard M.
Retired Master Sgt. Bernard M. Carney, 68, of Latrobe, died Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, in Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born Aug. 2, 1934, in Philadelphia, a son of the late Bernard F. and Elizabeth Greene Carney. He was a retired truck driver and a member of St. Vincent Parish, Latrobe. He was also a U.S. Army veteran, having served for 23 years. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam with the 82nd Airborne Division and Special Forces unit. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Burns. He is survived by his wife, Hazel (Cantwell) Carney of Latrobe; two sons, Patrick S. Carney of Latrobe and Michael B. Carney and wife, Kerryn, of Tridelphia, W.Va.; a daughter, Lorraine Hritz and husband, Gilbert, of Ligonier; four granddaughters, Michelle, Shannon and Jennifer Hritz and Makayla Carney; and a grandson, Michael Hritz. Relatives and friends will be received at the ROBERT B. DAVIS II FUNERAL HOME, 29 Division Ave., Greensburg, Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Vincent Parish Basilica. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Unity Township.
