Dr. James E. Ritter, 68, of Hampton, died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, while vacationing in Aruba. He was the husband for 47 years of Ann Peery Ritter; father of Jay G. Ritter; son of Josephine and the late William M. Ritter; brother of William J. (Georgia) and Robert H. (Dawn'c); brother-in-law of Hugh Peery and Gretchen Miller Peery; son-in-law of the late Rex and Clara Peery; and uncle of William and John Ritter, Jeff and Greg Peery, Cynde Wirth and Martie Milliken and the late Laurie Jackson and John Peery. Dr. Ritter was a graduate of Shaler High School with the class of 1962, Grove City College with the class of 1966 and the Pennsylvania College of Optometry with the class of 1970. He has been in private practice in the North Hills for 40 years. Dr. Ritter was a lifetime member of the American Optometric Association, the Pennsylvania Optometric Association where he served on the board of directors as well as the Western Pennsylvania Optometric Society where he served on various committees, the board of directors and as president. Jim was a former member and past president of the Elfinwild Lions Club. Dr. Ritter was also a member of Elfinwild Presbyterian Church for more than 40 years serving as a trustee, including two terms as president of the board of trustees. He also served as chairman of the committee at Elfinwild which was responsible for building the DeHaven Court at Elfinwild Senior Community on the site of the old DeHaven Elementary School. His passions were his Lord, Jesus Christ, his family, tennis, sailing and caring for his patients. Visitation will be held from 10 until the time of the memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday in Elfinwild Presbyterian Church, 3200 Mt. Royal Blvd., Glenshaw, PA 15116.
