Levkus , Anna 93
Willington, Conn., Formerly of Duquesne
Anna Zugeber Levkus, 93, passed away Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, at Meadow Brook of Granby. A resident of Willington, Conn., since 1954, Anna was born July 6, 1919, in Duquesne, to Alexander and Anna Zugeber, the fourth of five children. Those who treasure her memory include her sister, Marie Hochstetter, of Brooklyn, Conn., formerly of Willington, Conn.; daughters, Marian and her husband, Duncan Rowles, of Granby, Conn., and Christine and her husband, Christopher Swol, of Pensacola, Fla.; four grandchildren, John and (Kate) Rowles, David and (Asah) Rowles, Denise and (Jim) McCord and Douglas Swol; and three great-grandchildren, Dillon and Julia Rowles and Claire McCord; and several nieces and nephews and their families. Her husband, John, two brothers, Joseph and Alexander, and her sister, Emma, predeceased her. Having left school in 1932 at age 13 to help support her family, Anna would often say that she was "a product of the Depression" and as a result she worked hard her entire life. She drew upon her inner strength and native intelligence to succeed at whatever she did culminating in a 15 year career at UCONN where she retired in 1975 as the manager of the Commons Dining Hall. In her later years Anna was lovingly cared for by her elder daughter and son-in law, and, during the past five years, the dedicated staff at Meadow Brook of Granby. There will be a private celebration of Anna's life for family and friends. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association Connecticut, 2075 Silas Deane Highway, Suite 100, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
