David J. Summers, 73, of Monessen, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, in Monongahela Valley Hospital. Born in Monessen on May 21, 1939, he was the son of the late Donald and Mildred Dietsel Summers. He was a retired carpenter and a member of the Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Shadwell, traveling the world - Barcelona Spain was his favorite destination. He also enjoyed watching football and loved the Pittsburgh Steelers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred K. Summers; three brothers, William, James and Marvin Summers. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Lorrie and Kevin Amadio of Imperial, Pa., and Marlo and Chuck Kozar of Monessen; three grandchildren, Alyssa and Janelle Amadio and Dale Kozar; two brothers, Donald and Robert Summers, both of Monessen; and two sisters, Patricia Hutchinson of Webster and Linda Campana of Baxley, Ga.; brother and sister-in-law, Cleat and Mary Louise Doptis; a close friend, Mary Pearce; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the ROBERT A. BILLICK FUNERAL HOME INC. AND CREMATION SERVICES, http://www.billicksfuneralhome.com, 724-684-3700. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with the Father Michael Crookston officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Name Cemetery.
