Louise Caldwell Criss, 93, of Longwood at Oakmont, formerly of the East End of Pittsburgh, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2013. She was born July 28, 1919, in Youngstown, Ohio. She grew up in Edgewood and was educated at Chatham University, formerly Pennsylvania College for Women. Louise married Nicholas Rittenhouse Criss Jr. on Feb. 9, 1943. Saturday would have been their 70th wedding anniversary. Louise was a tireless supporter of many organizations. She was a member and officer of the Rockledge Garden Club for more than 60 years. She served on many committees and as Elder and Deacon for East Liberty Presbyterian Church. In 2006 she became a member of Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church. Louise served on the board for the Jane Holmes Residence for many years. A true anglophile, Louise loved to travel, making many trips to London during her lifetime. She loved spending time with family, friends and was a founding member of POETS social club of Briarcliff Road. Louise was preceded in death by her husband; her sister, Barbara Caldwell Blackburn; and her sons, Nicholas Rittenhouse Criss III, of San Diego, and Russell Caldwell Criss, of O'Hara. She is survived by her daughter, Sally (Criss) Allan, of Pittsburgh; her sister, Marjorie Caldwell Berlin, of Naples, Fla.; her grandchildren, Catherine (Criss) Parker, Nicholas Rittenhouse Criss IV, Elizabeth Criss, John Criss, Louise Criss, Jim Allan, David Allan and Bobby Allan; and two great-grandchildren. Friends and relatives will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION and ALTERNATIVE SERVICES INC., 421 Allegheny Ave., Oakmont, 412- 828-3535. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, in the Old Chapel of Homewood Cemetery, 1599 S. Dallas Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15217. Everyone please meet at the chapel.
