Catherine Vargo, 86, of Perryopolis, passed away peacefully Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, after a short illness with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren by her side. She was born Feb. 15, 1926, in Vintondale, Pa., the daughter of the late John and Verona Aczel Evon. Catherine was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Perryopolis. She retired after numerous years of service from Anchor Hocking. During World War II, she operated a crane at Christie Park and stacked bombs. She was an avid bingo player and loved to cook and bake. Catherine will surely be missed by everyone. She is survived by son, William "Bill" Vargo and wife, Carol, of Star Junction; daughter, Susan Rabatin and husband, Gary, of Belle Vernon; daughter, Kathleen Steiner of Perryopolis; grandchildren, Christine Muccioli and husband, Lou, Deborah Alekson and husband, Matt, Michele Vannucci, Erin Rabatin, Jason Kress, Brandy Stringhill and husband, Frank, Michael Vargo, Seth Vargo, Andi-Jo Vargo, Ashley Braum and husband, Jeff, Kara Steiner, Eric Lohr; great-grandchildren, Stephanie Dykstra, Gina Muccioli, Gabrielle Alekson, Brock Alekson, Brant Alekson, Alyx Vannucci, Logan Vannucci, Skylar Stringhill, Lily Stringhill, Jayden Kress, Nathan Braum, Ryker Maglione; great-great-grandchild, Lydia Dykstra, many nieces and nephews; and her loving cat, Max. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Vargo; sons, Andrew (Arnie), Thomas; son-in-law, Edward Steiner; brothers, Steve, Martin, John, Joe, Bill, Mike Evon; sisters, Helen Reho, Margaret Molnar Anderson; great-grandbaby, Alekson, and James Charles Bock. Friends will be received in the BLAIR-LOWTHER FUNERAL HOME INC., 305 Rear Independence St., Perryopolis, Wednesday 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday, where a prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Perryopolis. Father Anthony Ditto will be the celebrant. Interment will be in St. Nicholas Cemetery, Perryopolis. The family of Catherine would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the love, care and compassion given by the staff at Anna Lisa's Personal Care Home and Amedisys Health Care.
