Robert J. Unrath, 92, of West Mifflin, peacefully went home to God Saturday, March 23, 2013. Robert was born Oct. 30, 1920, in Philadelphia to William P. and Louise (DeNarde) Unrath. Raised in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh, Bob graduated from Schenley High School and worked at J. H. Matthews. Bob married Helen Koeper, and they had four children, Karen, Pamela, Deborah and Robert. Bob was a decorated World War II veteran, worked for General Motors Division of Fisher Body in West Mifflin for 26 years and attended Carnegie Tech. A jazz drummer, an avid fly fisherman who tied his own flies and a talented cook, Bob was a 32nd-degree Mason and Shriner and a member of the American Federation of Musicians. In his later years, Bob loved growing his mushrooms in the winter, his flowers in the spring and his beloved vegetable garden in the summer. Bob is survived by his children, Dr. Robert B. Unrath (Joanne), of Arvada, Colo., Deborah Olsavsky, of Plum, and Pamela Ann Buzzy, of Allentown; grandsons, Aaron Olsavsky, of Plum, and Daniel Olsavsky (Lori), of Littleton, Colo.; great-granddaughters, Alyshia and Phoenix Olsavsky; brother, William P. Unrath (Marlene), of Pleasant Hills; sister, Carol Rodwich, of Baldwin; nieces and nephews; and longtime companion, Belle Gruey. A daughter, Karen Helen Unrath, and sisters, Dorothy Burde and Letitia Glackin, preceded Robert in death. Friends received from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 30, 2013, at the GENE H. CORL INC. FUNERAL CHAPEL and CREMATION SERVICES OF MONROEVILLE, 4335 Northern Pike (one block east of Mosside Boulevard, Route 48), followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or the Shriner's Childrens Hospital in Mr. Unrath's name.
