Gary A. Barber, 59, of Scottdale, passed away at 11:43 a.m., Friday, April 12, 2013, in Excela Health Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. Gary was born Sept. 25, 1953, in Mt. Pleasant, a son of Patricia Pierce Barber, of Florida, and the late William Barber, who passed away Sept. 28, 1982. Gary married the former Cindy A. Sanner on March 3, 1997. Gary was a devoted husband, son, father and grandfather. He was a self-employed truck driver and a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Everson. Gary graduated from Southmoreland High School, class of 1971, and received an associate degree in sociology from the University of Maryland. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served in the Army. He was a member of the American Legion and Firemen's Club, both in Scottdale, and the VFW and Polish American Club, both in Everson. He also enjoyed golfing. Gary will be sadly missed by his loving family; his wife of 16 years, Cindy A. (Sanner) Barber; his mother; his four children, Amy, Gary, Samuel and Erik; his five grandchildren; his siblings, Chrissy, Connie, Cindy, Larry and Ricky; and his numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Family and friends will be received from 12 to 6 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel. A parish vigil service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday and full military honors will be accorded at 6 p.m. Sunday by the Southmoreland Veterans Association. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Everson, with Father John Sedlak as celebrant. Final resting place will be in Green Ridge Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church. Appreciation is extended to the 2-South nursing staff at Excela Health Frick Hospital for their loving care. Love Lasts Forever!
