Ethel C. (Couch) Betush, 99, formerly of Harrison and Fawn Township, passed away Friday, May 10, 2013, at the home of her daughter in Indiana, Pa., where she had made her home for the past seven years. She was born Oct. 26, 1913, in Arcadia, a daughter of the late Charles L. and Rose (Mann) Couch. Ethel lived most of her life in Allegheny County and graduated from Har-Brack High School in 1932. Throughout her children's years at Birdville School, she was active in the PTA, serving many years as homeroom mother and PTA officer. She was also involved in the lives of many children as a Girl Scout Troop Leader, and she mentored many young people in their first venture into the business world as a personnel director at G.C. Murphy Co., in the Heights Plaza. Ethel was a homemaker and a member of Center United Methodist Church of Fawn Township. She loved to bake, and she astonished family and friends well into her 80s by both the quantity and variety of pies, cookies, cream puffs, nut rolls and brownies that she prepared at Christmas and other holidays. She loved reading, collecting antiques and the New England area, where she and her husband traveled for many summers with their little Jayco Trailer. Survivors include her daughter, with whom she made her home for the past seven years, Janice (Jack) Miles, of Indiana, Pa.; son, Charles Thomas Betush, of Milroy; grandchildren, Susan (Dan) Camplese, of Millsboro, Del., Corey Betush, of Yeagerstown, Kelly (Douglas) Adams, of Durham, N.C., and Michael Miles, of Winter Park, Colo.; great-grandchildren, Brendan and Simon Adams of Durham, N.C., and Madison Betush, of McVeytown; great-great-granddaughter, Dylcia Zong, of McVeytown; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her sisters, Edwinna Clay, formerly of Fawn Township, Irene Kirkpatrick, formerly of Natrona Heights, Georgetta Wixson, of Guilford, N.H., and Donna (Ed) Lanigan, of Ava, N.Y. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Gustave Betush; grandson, Christopher Betush; and sisters, Mary Clemons and Isabell Gifford. Visitation from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, in the DUSTER FUNERAL HOME INC., 10th Avenue at Corbet Street, Tarentum (724-224-1526), where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday by the Rev. Tom Spiker, chaplain of VNA Hospice, Indiana County. Interment will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.
