Macaluso , Nancy 93
Nancy Rusyn Macaluso, 93, of Mt. Pleasant, died peacefully at home Tuesday, July 16, 2013. She was born Feb. 29, 1920, in Moon Township, the sixth child of Anna and Wasyl Rusyn, of Pittsburgh. Gone before her are her parents, Anna and Wasyl; brothers, Harry, John, Michael Stephen and William; and sisters, Mary, Anna and Evelyn. Guy Macaluso, her husband of 47 years, has been waiting to see her again since Dec. 22, 1991. She was blessed with a long life filled with many joys. As a young married woman, she moved to Mt. Pleasant in 1944, from the big city of Pittsburgh. She learned how to be an excellent Italian cook from her mother-in-law, Giacoma Macaluso. As a creative artist, her life was filled with many activities. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, baking and many crafts. She was a longtime member of the Mt. Pleasant Garden Club, serving as both secretary and president, and the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Society. She always had time to volunteer making pizzas at St. Pius Monday night bingo, serving on the Nationality Days committees and offering a helping hand to friends and neighbors. From 1975 through 2008, she worked for Nino's Restaurant as their pastry chef. She was well known for the beautiful Ukrainian eggs that she lovingly decorated each Easter. She shared this art with many people. In 1959, she appeared on Mr. Rogers Neighborhood to demonstrate the Ukrainian eggs. She was especially blessed to have been able to meet Blessed Pope John Paul II on a 1994 visit to Vatican City. During the last years of her life, she was lovingly taken care of by her eldest daughter, Toni Macaluso. With the help of two caring and gentle angels, Betty and Sandy Lobis, our mother was able to live in her own home with dignity, love, caring and laughter. To them, we are eternally grateful. She is survived by her brother, Frank Rusyn, of Pittsburgh; four children, Toni Macaluso, of Mt. Pleasant, Scott Macaluso, of Greensburg, Patrice Macaluso O'Connell and husband, John O'Connell, of Boston, Mass., and Gina Macaluso Stephen, of Frederick, Md.; and grandchildren, Sara Stephen, of Frederick, Md., Colleen Stephen Farnsworth and husband, Drew, of Columbus, Ohio, Jenna Stephen and Mac Stephen, of Frederick, Md. Friends were received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 406 E. Washington St., Mt. Pleasant, where a blessing service was held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church, Mt. Pleasant, with the Rev. Richard Kosisko as celebrant.
