Julius M. "Coolie" "Kubie" Kubican, 94, of Frazer Township, passed away peacefully Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013, at Highland Center, Brackenridge, with his wife at his side. He was born May 29, 1919, in Creighton, a son of Joseph and Ethel (Brem) Kubican. Mr. Kubican was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the battles and campaigns of Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Ardennes Central Europe. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with five Bronze Stars. He was a member of the American Legion Post 48 Natrona. Mr. Kubican worked at PPG Industries, Creighton, where he retired in 1976. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Betty (Bauers) Kubican; two sons, Robert (Dee Mercedes) Kubican, of Louisa, Va., and Michael (Barb Marioti) Kubican, of Fawn Township; three daughters, Sharon (Charles) Plyler, of Natrona, Sandy (Robert) Brown, of Saxonburg, and Gloria "Peanuts" Brewer, of Tarentum; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth R. Kubican; a brother, Joseph Kubican; and a sister, Irene Sutorka. Family and friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the PAUL R. AJAK FUNERAL HOME INC., 921 Freeport Road, Creighton. Services will begin at 10 a.m. Monday in the funeral home with the Rev. Barbara Ravenstahl officiating. Burial with full military honors by the Natrona American Legion and Army funeral honor guard will follow in Lakewood Memorial Gardens, Indiana Township.
