Rev. Norman H. Engell, 96, of Blairsville, died Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at Beacon Ridge, Indiana, Pa. He was born May 1, 1917, in Dubois, son of Alfred Engell and Ellen (Harrison) Engell. He was a retired Free Methodist Minister who was active for 42 years. He served 15 churches in southwestern Pennsylvania and West Virginia in the Pittsburgh Conference. He received a Bachelor of Arts Major in history and a Bachelor in theology and major in bible from Gods Bible School and College in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. He attended the Free Methodist Church in Blairsville. He enjoyed gardening and especially growing his roses. After retirement, Norman continued to minister to many even in his final days at Beacon Ridge. Norman had also worked for three years in the coal mines in Smock and was a substitute postal carrier. Survivors include his son, Norman N. Engell and wife, Kathy, of Arlington, Wash.; daughters, Dorothy J. Lockard and husband, Marvin, of Black Lick, and Eunice J. Sanford and husband, Larry, of Howell, Mich.; seven grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and two sisters, Grace Bowers, of Dubois, and Janet Buff, of Phoenix, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred Engell; mother, Ellen (Harrison) Engell; wife, Frances Jane (Copelin) Engell, in 2008; brothers, Alfred, David, Paul, Robert and John Engell and Charles Hess; and sisters, Catherine Dahl and Rosella Mobley. Visitation was from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, in JAMES F. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME INC., Blairsville. Funeral was at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013, in Blairsville Free Methodist Church, S. Stewart St., with the Rev. Rusty McClurg and the Rev. Fred Craig co-officiating.
