David A. Roberts, 59, of Long Branch, died peacefully Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, surrounded by his family. He was born Nov. 26, 1954, in Brownsville, a son of Jack J. Roberts, of West Newton, and Rose M. (Swarrow) Roberts, of Long Branch. After graduating from high school, David worked as a coal miner for a short time. He was a friend of Central Highlands Community United Methodist Church in Elizabeth Township. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. David's greatest pleasure was telling stories and talking with others. He was a special person who was loved by everyone who knew him. Besides his parents, David is survived by two sisters, Jackie Roberts, of Charleroi, and Brenda Roberts, of McKeesport; one brother, Charlie Roberts and his wife, Christine, of Elco; one niece, Francie Smith, of Wheeling, W.Va.; three nephews, Shawn Ackinclose, of Belle Vernon, Charles Roberts, of Elco, and Johnny Gudel, of Charleroi; three great-nephews, Charles Roberts Jr., of Elco, Seth Smith, David's godson, of Wheeling, W.Va., and Nathan Stallard-Gudel, of Charleroi; and two great-nieces, Hannah and Leah Ackinclose, of Belle Vernon. Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014, in the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, 724-929-5300, http://www.FergusonFuneralHomeAndCrematory.com. A church service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Central Highlands Community United Methodist Church, 100 Timothy Drive, Elizabeth, with the Rev. William Heaton officiating. Everyone please meet at church. Interment will follow in Mt. Tabor Cemetery in Long Branch.
