Cepaitis , Pete Jr. 87

Monongahela

Pete Cepaitis Jr., 87, of Monongahela, died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014, in his home. Born Jan. 19, 1927, in New Eagle, he was the son of the late Pete Sr. and Anna (Miller) Cepaitis. For 41 years, Pete worked as a foreman for Conrail Railroad until his retirement in 1987. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of St. Damien of Molokai Parish (Transfiguration Church) in Monongahela. He was a member of AARP, the VFW No. 1409 and the American Legion Post No. 302 all of Monongahela. Pete enjoyed spending time with his family, sitting on his porch soaking up the sun, talking to the animals, playing the lottery and fishing. Surviving are his wife, Anna M. (Thomas) Cepaitis who he married April 23, 1949; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Tom and Lu Cepaitis of Washington, Pa., and Mark Cepaitis of Southpointe; three daughters, Terry Cepaitis of Maryland, Patty Cocciolone of Monessen and Anita Cepaitis and fiance, Mark Wukovich of Monongahela; a brother, Joe and his wife, Vanna Cepaitis of Donora; a brother-in-law, Al Thomas and wife, Lundie, of Pittsburgh; five grandchildren, Heather, Amy, Jamie, Shelby and Taylor; and six great-grandchildren; as well as extended family members, Teri and Joe Barone of Monongahela and Cliff Goodrow of Southpointe. Preceding him in death were his two brothers, Edward and William Cepaitis. Friends will be received at the MARSHALL MARRA FUNERAL HOME, 216 Chess St., Monongahela, 724-258-6767, marshallmarrafuneralhome.com, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Funeral prayers will begin in the funeral home Saturday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Damien of Molokai Parish, Transfiguration Church, Saturday, March 1, 2014, at 10 a.m. with the Father William Terza as celebrant. At the family's request, interment will be private and held in Monongahela Cemetery. The Mid-Mon Valley Shipmates will conduct a two-bell service in the funeral home Friday at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made in Pete's name to the Washington County Area Humane Society, 1527 PA Route 136, Eighty Four, PA 15330.
