Rod Joseph Datz, 38, of Sarasota, Fla., formerly of Norvelt, died suddenly Monday, Sept. 13, 2004, at home. He was born June 10, 1966, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late George and Anne Cerkovnik Datz. He was Catholic by faith. Rod was the owner and operator of the R.J. Datz Handyman and Cleaning Lady Service. He was a past member of the National Guard. He is survived by Patricia J. Pallitta Datz and their son, Colt, of Greensburg; two brothers, George E. Datz and his wife, Annette, of Ruffsdale, and Dr. Kurt G. Datz and his wife, Dr. Helen Dosch, of Dickinson, N.D.; a sister, Ellen Lewis and her husband, John, of Lilburn, Ga.; 11 nieces and nephews, Shane, Eli, Angelica, Dakota, Jayden, Kal, Hailey, Lear, Max, Annika and Emily Anna; three aunts, Eleanor "Elaine" Cerkovnik and Paula Cerkovnik, both of Norvelt, and Cecilia Golobish and her husband, William, of Indiana; and two uncles, Joseph Covner and Nicholas Cerkovnik, both of Youngwood. Rod is also survived by a half sister, Deborah Datz, of Monroeville; and a half brother, Michael Datz. Family and friends will be received at the JAY A. HOFFER FUNERAL HOME, Norvelt, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 4 to 9 p.m. A private viewing will be held Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home. His funeral liturgy will be held Monday at 9 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Michael Begolly officiating. Interment will follow in Hillview Cemetery, Hempfield Township.
