Beresh , Rafael L.
Rafael L. Beresh, 79, of Donora, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2005, in Mon Valley Care Center, Carroll Township. He was born Nov. 15, 1925, in Donora, the son of the late Josef and Anna Borsch Beresh. He was a member of St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church in Donora, where he served as a cantor for many years. Mr. Beresh also belonged to the church choir and the Holy Name and Sacred Heart societies. He was a member of the Greek Catholic Union, Donora Historical Society and the Amateur Radio Club. Mr. Beresh was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy as an Electrician's Mate. He received the American Theatre Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Mr. Beresh also was a member of the Sea Bee's. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Learn and Margaret Bercik; and three brothers, Nicholas, John and Joseph Beresh. Survivors include his beloved wife of 58 years, Dorothy I. Bainer Beresh; two daughters, Mary Ann Rudnisky and husband Lonnie, of Amity, and Rebecca L. Pikor and husband James, of Carroll Township; four sons, William R. Beresh and wife Mary Ann, of Donora, Raphael Beresh and wife Kristina, of Vancouver, Wash., Joseph Beresh and wife Michele, of Donora, and Robert Beresh and wife Tammy, of Washington, Pa.; 19 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; a brother, Michael Beresh, of Donora; and many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received in the ANTHONY L. MASSAFRA FUNERAL HOME, 40 Second St. Ext., Carroll Township/Donora (724-379-6900), on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Blessing Service will be held Friday, Oct. 28, at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Liturgy at 10 a.m. in St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. James Ragan as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Donora. On Thursday, a Parastas Service will be held at 2:30 p.m., the parish rosary will be recited at 3 p.m., and the Knights of Columbus will conduct a service at 7:15 p.m.
