WYNNE-WILLIAMS,
Dr. Charles (Tim) James Edgar
25th April, 1940 - 5th October, 2025
Dr. Charles (Tim) James Edgar Wynne-Williams passed away on October 5, 2025, in Victoria, British Columbia. Tim was born on April 25, 1940, in Stourbridge, England, to Sylvia and Charles Wynne-Williams. He attended Stonyhurst School as a boy and later studied medicine at the University of Cambridge, where he earned a prestigious state scholarship with an essay on the Plantagenets - reflecting his lifelong passion for history. At Cambridge, he was a gifted rower and a stalwart of the college's first boat, rowing in the 'engine room' at seat 5 and often victorious at the Henley Royal Regatta. After qualifying as a physician, he became a consultant paediatrician at Northampton General Hospital and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians. Early in his career, he spent an adventurous year working in Jamaica.
In 1969, Tim married Hilary Reeks, and they had two sons, Charles and Edmund. In 1978, he married Jacky, with whom he had a daughter, Sebastienne. He was a loving and supportive father.
After suffering strokes in his 40s, Tim retired from medicine and took up sheep farming in Wales. He often said he used the same care and attention with his sheep as he had with his young patients. During this time, he reconnected with Philippa, a childhood friend, whom he married in 1999. Together, they spent ten joyful years in Scotland, gardening and hosting grandchildren during the summers. A highlight of this period was a two-month stay in Kerala, South India.
In 2006, Tim and Philippa moved to British Columbia to be closer to Philippa's tribe. This was a great new adventure for Tim which he embraced wholeheartedly.
Tim was predeceased by his sister, Jo, and his brother, John. He is survived by his wife, Philippa; his sons, Charles and Edmund; their wives, Trudy and Karen; his daughter, Sebastienne, his grandchildren in England - Toby, Adam, Oliver, Dominic, and Emma; his sister Liz; and his many adopted children - Darlene, Lynda, Andrea, Maria, Christian, Tamara, Justin, Sophie, and Theodora - and their children.
Tim was a kind and practical man, of intelligence and wide knowledge, lightly worn.
