Arthur (Duke) Chabes,
Beloved father, devoted provider, and loyal friend, passed away peacefully on July 02, 2025, at the age of 71. He was preceded in death by dear family Jose Eusebio (Father) and Lillian Chabes (Mother), Jesse (Brother), Guadalupe (Brother), Ida (Sister), Lonnie (Brother), Daniel (Brother) Joe (Brother) and friends, whose memories he held close to his heart.
He is survived by three sons, Jason (Liliana) Chabes of Portage, IN; Esteban Chabes of Burns Harbor, IN; Javier (Priscilla) Chabes of Portage, IN; who were the pride and joy of his life. As well as two brothers, Frank Chabes of Lake Station, IN; Rudy (Eileen) Chabes of Crown Point, IN; three sisters, Juanita Chabes of Whiting, IN; Adeline (Jim) Vargas of Chesterton, IN; Carmen (Jerry) Regalado of Chesterton, IN.
A man of quiet strength and tireless dedication, Arthur worked hard throughout his life to ensure his family never went without. His hands bore the marks of his labor, but his spirit remained generous and kind. Whether sharing stories over dinner, or lending his sons a listening ear, Arthur was a constant, steady presence—a father in every sense of the word. Arthur was a dedicated Indianapolis Colts fan as well as Indiana Pacers fan who enjoyed watching the games live or at home with his family and friends. He took pride in caring for his pets Queen, Boudro and Sadie which showed how big his loving heart was. Though he faced loss with resilience and life’s challenges with grit, he never let hardship steal his warmth. Those who knew him will remember his unwavering loyalty, his dry wit, and the deep well of love he had for his family. He will be deeply missed, yet his legacy lives on in the character of his sons, the values he instilled, and the stories that will be told for years to come. Cremation will take place with Rees Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave, Portage with a Celebration of Life on Sunday July 27, 2025, at Woodland Park Portage Indiana in the Sycamore Room. Arthurs remains will kept by his sons while his marker is completed for his final resting place in Calvary Cemetery once his marker is completed at that time a private service will be held with close family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Arthur (Dukie) Chabes by spending time with your loved ones, lending a helping hand to someone in need, or simply sharing a memory of him with someone who knew him.

I will truly miss Dukie, he was always my favorite of Peter Paul's friends. Our families share a ton of great times. He was always smiling and laughing. What a great guy he is and I will never forget all the good times we all shared. Rest easy Duke, love you.
