Beverly Lou Wallis, age 89 of Elwood, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, Feb. 21, 2025 at her residence following a sudden illness. She was born Dec. 24, 1935 in Elwood, the daughter of Harold L. and Alice (Knorr) Pool. Beverly married the love of her life, George E. Wallis on May 20, 1960 and they shared over 64 years of marriage and life together. While George served in the U.S. Navy, Beverly moved along with him and raised their family. She went to beautician school while they lived in Virginia Beach, and became a licensed beautician. When they moved back to Elwood, Beverly worked for many years as a dedicated manager of the deli at Carter’s Supermarket. Following her many years at Carter’s, Beverly went on to work in the cafeteria at Edgewood Elementary School and help people as a tax preparer.
Beverly lived a fun, full life, but there was nothing she loved more in this world than her family. She loved preparing homemade meals and baked goods for them to gather around the kitchen and enjoy. Beverly adored being surrounded by her family - whether it was outside on the back porch for a get-together, playing poker on Saturday nights, or camping outside. She especially enjoyed playing bingo and spending time spoiling all her grandchildren. Beverly will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to all.
Beverly is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years, George E. Wallis; two children, Christopher (Sarah) Wallis and Penny (Tony) McCord; 6 grandchildren, Stephannie (Travis) Alcorn, Jason Bannon, Chasity Bannon, Keith (Leslie) Huggins, Michael (Kimberly) York, and Alyssa (Brandon) Fields; 8 great-grandchildren, Summer Phillips, Cora Lou Bannon, Tylon Scott, Graccey Tyner, Dylan Huggins, Faith Parrott, Conner Parrott, and Zander Bannon; and several great-great-grandchildren, including her very special great-great-grandson Kaiden Johns, along with Salem Johns, Holden Blankenship, Sonny Scott, and Adeline Hart. Beverly is also survived by 3 siblings, Mary Alice (Richard) Boyland, Vickie Kinnaman, and Randy Pool; brother-in-law, Wilbur Biddle; and special nieces and nephews, Jon (Judy) Biddle and Vincent (Kathy) Pool.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Rickey Bannon and Barry Bannon; 3 siblings, Arthur Pool, Robert (Marilyn) Pool, and Suzanne Biddle; very special daughter-in-law, Donna Wallis; grandson, Neil Wiseman; and great-great-granddaughter, Adelaide Bannon.
Beverly’s wishes were to be cremated and with no formal services. Her family will have a celebration of life at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood. Online condolences and memories may be shared at copherfeslermay.com.
