Bonnie Kay Kathlene Himle Obituary

Bonnie Kay Kathlene (Olson-Warner) Himle, 75, of Leeds, ND, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2025 with her daughter at her side.  Bonnie Kay was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in mid-January and later chose to spend her remaining days under the care of hospice and her family at her daughter’s home in Wisconsin.

Bonnie Kay was born on August 10, 1949, to Irving and Isie (Bichler) Olson, in Devils Lake, ND.  She grew up in the Harlow and Maddock area with her parents, three sisters and two brothers.  As a young girl, she discovered her love of cooking, baking and gardening.  Some of her favorite memories were the Christmas programs and events at the VFW Hall in Harlow.

Bonnie Kay married in 1967, and through that union, her three children, Dion, Dale and Chris, were born.  When asked what she was most proud of in her life, she said, “my kids.”  Bonnie Kay later married Lloyd Himle on June 21, 1983, and they made their home in Leeds, ND.

Bonnie Kay wore many hats in her various jobs as cook, waitress, blackjack dealer, cleaning service, and working alongside her husband at L&H Plumbing and Heating.

In her younger years, Bonnie Kay played catcher on the Maddock girls softball team, where she later became coach and manager. She belonged to the Maddock bowling league, enjoying time with friends and taking part in all their silly antics. Bonnie Kay was blessed to have a green thumb and found gratification working in her garden and sharing its bounty with those around her. She was an excellent cook, baker and canner.  She took pride in preparing meals, making everything "just right."  During the holidays and family gatherings, everyone looked forward to eating anything she prepared.

Bonnie Kay was very artistic and creative. She would come up with ideas and then figure out how to make it.  She owned a craft business, BK Crafts, and attended vender shows selling all her creations. She enjoyed making flowers for weddings and events, and especially loved beading Christmas ornaments. She could make anything with her sewing machine, including making costumes for her kids. She also enjoyed calling and playing Bingo, playing cards, and Sudoku.

A follower of Christ, Bonnie Kay was known for her kind heart and preference for the simple things in life. She was a person of few words; but had a sense of humor with quick wit and loved to share her favorite memories.

Bonnie Kay leaves behind a lifetime of love, laughter, and cherished memories.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Lloyd Himle, Leeds, ND; children, Dion (Tammy) Warner of Fairbanks, AK, Dale (Lisa) Warner of Thompson, ND, Chris (Jeff) Harris of Appleton, WI; step-daughter, Valerie (Mark) Dziwulski of Rapid City, SD; granddaughter, Chelsea Warner of Anchorage, AK; grandson, Will Harris of Appleton, WI; great-grandsons, Bohdi and Jaxson, Anchorage, AK; siblings Terri Greene of West Fargo, ND, Shelli Elverud (Ron Case) of West Fargo, ND and Randy (Cindy) Olson of Devils Lake, ND; sister-in-law, Gail Berg of Fargo, ND; brother-in-law, Rio (Jean) Himle of Leeds, ND; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, Laurence and Irene Himle; brother, Dewey Wallace; sister, Sherri Johnson; nephew, Jeremy Antonson, and niece, Tiffany Johnson.

Bonnie Kay’s wishes were to have a ‘Celebration of Life’ after a private burial.  We welcome family and friends to share memories of Bonnie Kay, as we remember her with food and laughter, on Sunday, August 10, 2025 from 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM at the Harlow VFW Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to VFW Hall Harlow, c/o J Hermanson, 4915 50th Ave NE, Maddock, ND 58348 or Greenwood Cemetery Fund, c/o Richard Lynne, 4951 28th St NE, Maddock, ND 58348.
