Cindy was born on May 22, 1958, to Fred W. and Janet M. (Scharf) Eggl in Cando, ND, as the fifth of six children. Cindy’s early years included attendance at Cando Public Schools, culminating in her graduation from Cando High School in 1976. Cindy’s enthusiastic attendance found her excelling in vocal performance, winning numerous awards for solo and ensemble work, participating in musicals and also performing with The Quarter Notes; she was also a Cando Cubs cheerleader. Cindy was excited to continue her education at Furman University in Greenville, SC, and Concordia College, Moorhead MN, culminating in her attendance and graduation from Interstate Business College as a Legal Secretary.
Her career path led her to work for Greater North Dakota Association, MeritCare Foundation, Dakota Medical Foundation and Impact Foundation. What made Cindy’s heart sing was improving other people’s lives. In addition to her Executive Administration work, Cindy was a Vocal Coach for many students in the Fargo Moorhead area, of which two of her students participated in the Metropolitan Opera Auditions. Cindy also entertained with her two sisters in the Satin Sounds dance band across North Dakota and Minnesota, performing in social clubs and for numerous special events.
In the summer of 2007, Cindy, her sister Jill and former Candoite Rusty Papachek created the Impact-Cando Connection Fund. Over the last 18 years, the Impact-Cando Connection Fund has worked to be a consistently positive, uplifting opportunity which provides a way to give back to the Cando/Towner County area. As an advisory board member and the main driver behind the Impact-Cando Connection Fund, Cindy has helped to raise over $350,000 to date. Through the combined efforts, grants have been awarded to Cando/Towner County Charitable organizations that provide services and programs that enrich the lives of all who call the area home. Cindy was delighted to reach out each year to the Impact-Cando Connection Fund sponsors, who were so gracious in giving back.
Having been a breast cancer survivor herself, Cindy fought to pass legislation regarding 3D mammograms for patients with Dense Breast Tissue. She was successful in turning around a “no pass” recommendation by calling each and every State lawmaker to gain their support resulting in the successful passage of House Bill No 1370 – Mammogram Results Notices. After completing her cancer treatments, Cindy rejoiced in the opportunity to share her experience with all through writing her book, Boundless Blessings and God’s Grace: My Journey Through Breast Cancer.
Cindy made a lasting impact on nearly everyone she encountered; she was rarely at a loss for words. She was an organizational guru, a woman with a plan and always ready to help provide guidance.
Cindy is survived by her brother Scott (Kathy) Eggl of Cando, ND, sisters Victoria (Tom) Steele, and Jill Eggl, both of Fargo, ND, sister-in law Carla Ann (Mark) Eggl of Greenville SC, nieces Melissa St. Michaels of Jordan, MN, and her children Logan of Fargo, ND and Parker of Burnsville, MN, Betsy Steele of Forest Lake, MN, Ashley (Michael) Talbot and children Liam and Charlotte of Greenville, SC, Stephen (Ashley) Eggl and son Ashby of Mauldin, SC, uncle Lt. Colonel (Retired) Richard L. (Julia) Scharf of Fargo, ND, aunt Dr. Judith Witthoeft of Clemson, SC.
