David Kenneth Vaughan, 67, passed away on Friday, October 10, 2025, in Wichita Falls, Texas. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 24, at 12 noon, at Owens and Brumley Funeral Home in Wichita Falls.
David was born to Willie Olen Vaughan and Oneita (Welch) Vaughan on November 14, 1957, in Sumter, South Carolina, and they settled in Wichita Falls, Texas, soon after. David began working at age 11, at one of the family businesses, Vaughan's Go-Carts. During his high school years, he worked at another family business, Wichita Auto Salvage and Garage, where his interest and skill on the race track became apparent to all. He continued with school and was a 1975 graduate of Hirschi High School and Carrigan Technical Training School for Welding, and all the while he continued to race. David became a top competitor over the next decade, racing stock, modified, and late model cars both locally, at Wichita Speedway, and at both Lawton Speedway and Oklahoma City. Winning often, he has over 100 trophies that prove his skill as a driver. His back bumper logo on his race car read, "WILLIE'S WILD ONE".
After completing Welding School, David’s 1st Job was for B & W FABRICATORS in the late 1970's, then worked in the mid 1980's to mid 1990's for both ULTRAMAR AND PIPING ENGINEERING in the California Refineries, Venezuela, and various locations throughout the U.S. His work history culminated from the mid 1990's - 2005, as a Front-End Man/Welder/Pipe Fitter, locally, for WICHITA TANK MFG at the Kamay Tank Shop.
David was also a LIFE-LONG AND AVID FISHERMAN with a special gift for catching fish. He enjoyed many fishing adventures at area lakes and Lake Texoma, fishing for CRAPPIE, or JUG FISHING for CATFISH with his father, Willie, his wife, Lisa, and/or his best fishing buddy, Rick Merriman. David, like all of us, had his strengths and weaknesses, but if someone needed help, David would find a way to come to their rescue. He could fix anything and would go the distance to "right them" again. He was a good man and loved helping out his friends or his children, Jared, Laycee and Cody. David was a rare, unique individual with many talents. David was a true hero. Although we will miss him, his memory will remain in our hearts.
David was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Lisa (Raines) Vaughan, a brother, Michael Ray Vaughan, two sons, Jared Ryan Vaughan and Cody David Vaughan, a daughter, Laycee Vaughan Carrillo and husband, John, 3 grandchildren, Brooklynn, Brielle, and John Jr., nephews Brad and Kyle Vaughan and a niece, Kelli Rae Vaughan.
