Donald Sheffer Obituary

Donald Eugene Sheffer, 76, of Brinkley, passed away peacefully at home on August 2, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on October 11, 1948, in Searcy, Arkansas, to Eugene and Fern Sheffer. Don lived a life marked by integrity, love, and an unwavering sense of duty to family, God, and country.

From an early age, Don was known for his sharp mind and strong work ethic, graduating as Valedictorian from Cotton Plant High School in 1966. He continued his education at the University of Central Arkansas before heeding the call to serve his country in 1969. Don proudly enlisted in the United States Army, serving both stateside and in Vietnam. His military service was a testament to his unwavering dedication to his country.

On February 25, 1972, Don married the love of his life, Cindy Freeman, and together they built a beautiful life centered on their Christian faith, family, and the values of love and service. Don’s faith was the foundation of everything he did. As a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church in Brinkley, Don served as a Deacon and found great joy in the fellowship and support of his church family. His commitment to Christ and the teachings of the Bible shaped his character, guiding him to live a life of kindness, integrity, and compassion.

Professionally, Don worked as a land surveyor and was the owner and operator of Delta Survey Co. in Brinkley, where he was known for his skill and attention to detail. However, it was his role as a husband, father, and grandfather that he held most dear.

Don was a lifelong baseball fan who especially loved watching his kids and grandkids play the game. Whether it was a little league field or a high school diamond, he was always there—cheering them on with pride and enthusiasm. He also rarely missed a Razorback baseball game, proudly supporting his favorite team with the same passion he showed for his family. Those moments, both in the stands and at home, were some of his greatest joys. Don also had a deep love for the outdoors and the time it allowed him to spend with those he loved most. He especially cherished time spent hunting with his sons and grandson, and crappie fishing with his wife, creating memories in the outdoors that they will carry for a lifetime. Those who knew Don will remember him as a man of quiet strength, generosity, and steadfast faith. His life was a living example of commitment - to his family, his country, and his community. His legacy will live on in the many lives he touched, the stories shared in his memory, and the love he leaves behind.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Fern Sheffer. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Cindy Sheffer; and their children: Jeremy Sheffer (Angie) of Cape Girardeau, MO; Kevin Sheffer (Donna) of Searcy; Daniel Sheffer (Jessica) of Wynne; Jacob Sheffer (Brandi) of Paragould; and Charity Miley (Blake) of Farmington. He is also survived by his sister, Cheryl Martin (Ed) of Jessup, GA; as well as 10 grandchildren: Cole Sheffer (Jessica), Maegann Schooley (Tate), Aubrey Holloway, Marley Sheffer, Sophie Miley, Emma Sheffer, Finley Sheffer, Fletcher Sheffer, and Kentlee, Kali, and Kooper Neal; as well as one great-grandchild, Brady Sheffer.
