Gatha Lea Hurley, 90, of Monongah, gained her wings and joined those who passed before her on Sunday, August 3, 2025 from Fairmont Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Fairmont.
Gatha was born in Caress, Braxton County, WV on November 2, 1934, the daughter of the late Gordon and Gladys Gregory Dennison.
Gatha graduated from Fairview High School and retired from Westinghouse/North American Phillips Lighting. She was a member of the Covenant Church in Fairmont and belonged to several Bible Study Groups and read her Bible until she lost her eye sight.
Gather and her husband, Tom, were in charge of Stepping Stones, Inc. in Fairmont for many years.
Gatha is survived by one son, Milton “Spud” Hurley and his wife Debbie of Monongah; two sisters, Sue Slimmer and husband Jack of Myersville, MD and Mabel Berry and husband Junior of Carmichael, PA; sister-in-law, Mary Dennison of Frederick, MD; three grandchildren, Shane Hurley and wife Brandi, Chase Hurley, and Beau Hurley and wife Kristal; several great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews also survive.
In addition to her parents, Gatha was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Hurley, after 43 years of marriage; one son, Jeff Hurley; brother, Gary Dennison; two sisters, Mary Ann Klara and Carol Cleveland; four brothers-in-law, Eugene Hartzell, Ed Copenhagen, Edge Klara, and Bob Cleveland.
The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Avenue in Fairmont, on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Thursday, August 14, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The funeral service will be on Thursday, August 14, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Roy Weese officiating. May God bring peace and comfort to her family and friends. Wish I had more time with her. Little did I know we are distantly related. Braxton Co is my Grandmas birthplace and her family homeplaces. Such a sweet lady. She will be missed.
