Gina Renee Hicks, aged 63, passed peacefully from this life at her home on July 9th, 2025. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and spent her teenage years and most of her adult life in McCreary County, Kentucky.
Gina leaves behind her five children, whom she always said were the greatest achievement of her life: Misty (Patrick) of Somerset, KY; James of Pine Knot, KY; Barbara of Nancy, KY; Scotty of Whitley City, KY; and her shining light and joy, Cassie of Dayton, KY. Gina instilled in her children a fierce drive for exploration, deep compassion, and unconditional love.
She is survived by her mother, Barbara Hicks of Bellevue, KY, and her sister and lifelong best friend, Teresa Lynch, also of Bellevue. Gina was the proud grandmother of eight and great-grandmother of two—with more blessings on the way. She was preceded in death by her beloved father, James Hicks of Stearns, KY.
In her early years, Gina was a fashionista with a natural talent for hair styling. Later, she pursued a calling in healthcare, working as a home health and ICU nurse. Her patients and their families were touched by her care and comforted by her presence.
Gina loved music, her many cherished furbabies, history, and the simple joy of tinkering for hours in her father’s garage. She was a storyteller at heart—sharing long conversations about books, movies, and memories of her youth. She found joy in both the vibrant energy of city life in Cincinnati and the peaceful beauty of the forests and mountains of McCreary County.
She will be remembered on sunny summer days that give way to the chorus of the woods. She will be remembered during the holidays, when her excitement for family time was contagious. She will be remembered for her cheerful morning spirit—even when it annoyed everyone else. But above all, she will be remembered.
A graveside celebration of life will take place at McCreary Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Whitley City, KY on Monday, July 14th, 2025, at 1:00 PM. Friends and family are warmly invited to attend.
The family requests any donations be made to the Pulaski County Animal Shelter.
