Hilma Janice Murray, 80, of Sanger, passed away peacefully in Denton, Texas on Saturday, July 5, 2025. Born in Boswell, Oklahoma on April 7, 1945, she was the daughter of Benjamin C. and Georgia L. (Ashby) Johnson. Her family later made Denton their home, where Hilma graduated with the Class of 1963 from Denton High School.
On October 17, 1992, Hilma married the love of her life, Ronald Eugene Murray. A devoted homemaker, Hilma’s greatest joy came from nurturing her family and creating a warm, welcoming home filled with love, laughter, and care. Hilma had a passion for animals, especially her dog, Bella.
She is survived by her children, Brenda Hawes and husband Richard of Sanger, and Ladell McCoy; sisters Dorotha Smith and Becky Johnson, both of Sanger; brothers Teddy Johnson of Whitesboro and Derrall Henry Johnson of Mountain Springs; five grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren who affectionately called her “GG” and brought her immense pride and happiness.
Hilma is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Benny Johnson; and her sister, Kathy Vega.
A visitation for Hilma will be from 6:00 pm to 8;00 pm on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Coker Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Sanger Cemetery, where family and friends will gather to honor and celebrate her life. Shane Tilden, Richard Hawes, Daniel Gresham, and Gilbert Barth will serve as pallbearers.
