James “Jim” F. Zatlokowicz


Age 83, of Hammond, IN, passed away on Monday, May 19, 2025. He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Elizabeth (nee Nash); children: Christopher (Megan) Zatlokowicz, Susan Moore, and (Ret.) LCDR Jon (Malissa) Zatlokowicz; grandchildren: Ricky (Ty), Tommy, Austin, Kelly, Kaitlyn, Cynthia, Adam, and Alexis; great-grandchildren, Cedric and McKenna, and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Zatlokowicz; and brothers, Joseph (Claudia) Zatlokowicz and Robert Zatlokowicz. 


Jim worked for over 30 years as a furnace operator with LaSalle Steel and was a member of the Hammond Mohawks. He was an avid fisherman, finding peace on the water. Later in life, he discovered a passion for golf, enthusiastically honing his swing on the greens. 


Known for his remarkable talents as a handyman, Jim could fix anything, from intricate electrical systems to complex plumbing issues, earning him admiration and gratitude from all who knew him. His resourcefulness and warm spirit will live on through the lives he touched. 


Jim will also be remembered as the life of the party. Known for his jokes and pranks, he put a smile on the faces of all around him. He taught us all to find humor in everything. 


Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Thursday, May 22, 2025 at Solan Pruzin Funeral Home, 14 Kennedy Ave., Schererville, IN 46375. A prayer service will be held at 4:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, May 23, 2025 DIRECTLY at St. James the Less Church, 9640 Kennedy Ave. Highland, IN with Fr. Gregory Bim-Merle officiating. Friends may visit with the family at the church from 10:00 AM until time of Mass. Services conclude at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dementia Society of America: https://www.dementiasociety.org/donate

I worked with Jim for many years at Lasalle Steel...
he was a great guy and a good furnace operator. He definitely knew how to work and still have fun!
