Johanna L. Jones, 77, of Amherst, NH passed away on Saturday, January 18th, 2025, at her home.
Born in Austin, TX on September 3rd, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Arnold and Johanna (Balas) Payne. After spending her early childhood in Eagle Lake, TX, her family moved to Houston, TX. She was a graduate of Waltrip High School, Class of 1966.
For many years, Johanna worked for the US Postal Service as a letter carrier. Outside of work, she enjoyed crafts, gardening, shopping, antiques and cooking. She loved her Maltese dogs: Tisha, Mitzi and Kaiti. Above all else, she enjoyed time with her family and lifelong friends in Texas and NH. She fiercely loved and was tremendously proud of her children and grandchildren.
Along with her parents, she was pre-deceased by a daughter, Jennifer Jones in 1974 and her brother, Joseph Payne and his wife Susan.
She will be forever loved and remembered by her children, John Jones and his wife Stephanie of Goffstown, NH and Angela Fahey of Sanford, ME; four grandchildren, Sophia, Ava, Bronson and Ethan; two sisters, Lucy Capps and Mary Jane and her husband Michael Schumacher, and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank The Caregivers, Inc and the Amherst Police Department for the wonderful care they provided to Johanna when their help was needed.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Johanna on March 8, 2025, at the home of her son.
For those who would like to make a memorial contribution in Johanna’s memory, you may do so to the American Diabetes Association.

Missing you Johanna. One of my closest friends for the past 35 years. It's hard not being able to chat, sometimes hours on end. We shared so much of our lives during those years. It's hard to believe you are no longer here. It's sad. I know, though, from our talks that you believed in Jesus. And because you believed, I know you are resting in his care and one day will be raised again and in a most beautiful place where there is no suffering, sadness, or pain. A place full of love and where you will be blessed with all the desires of your heart. I hope to see you again one day my friend. Thank you so much for the friendship you gifted me through all those years. A true blessing.
My condolences go out to John and Angela and their families, to everyone blessed to have known Johanna during their lives, and to Johanna's beloved family "back home" in Texas.

johanna’s family and my family were great friends in Eagle Lake. They lived one street from us and my Mother and I were frequent visitors. Johanna was a great friend in our young lives. I was blessed to talk to her when she moved back to EL for a short while.
So I send my heartfelt sympathy to all members of the Payne family and Jones family. Praying for strength for all of you.
