LeRoy George Holso, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on July 13, 2025, at his home in Kaleva, Michigan, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on March 20, 1935, to Lila (Niemi) and George Holso, LeRoy grew up with a strong sense of family and community that would guide him throughout his life. He married the love of his life, Rosemarie Janet Montesante, on July 8, 1961, and together they celebrated 64 wonderful years of marriage, filled with love, laughter, and shared dreams.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Lila and George Holso, as well as his dear grandson, Ryan Otis Peterson. Their memories will forever remain a part of his legacy, shaping the lives of those who knew and loved him.
LeRoy was a proud father to four children: Sherri Holso, Tammi (Harry Pederson) Holso, Bruce (Tammy) Holso, and Steven Holso. He took immense joy in being a grandfather to eight grandchildren: Allen James (AJ) Kuuttila, Alexander Lee Kuuttila, Jessica Ann Sickels, Harry Lee Pederson, Ryan Otis Pederson, Jonathan Bruce Holso, Sheila Ann McLaughlin, and Logan LeRoy Holso, as well as numerous great-grandchildren who brought him endless delight.
LeRoy began his career with the C&O (Chesapeake and Ohio) Railroad, serving as a Merchant Marine on the rail car ferry service out of Ludington, Michigan. His dedication and hard work led him to a fulfilling career with the Manistee County Road Commission in Kaleva, from which he eventually retired, leaving behind a legacy of commitment and service to his community.
Throughout his life, LeRoy was known for his humor and the ability to make friends wherever he went. He was a dedicated hunter and an avid supporter of Brethren High School basketball, often seen cheering from the stands. A lifelong fan of the Detroit Tigers, he found great pleasure in watching the games and sharing his passion for baseball with his family.
LeRoy was a devoted member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Kaleva, where he found strength and community among his fellow congregants. His faith was a guiding light in his life, and he instilled the values of love, kindness, and compassion in all who knew him.
LeRoy is survived by his family and friends who will forever hold him close in their hearts. As we remember LeRoy George Holso, let us celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and an unyielding commitment to family and friends. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the stories we share and the memories we cherish.
Rest in peace, LeRoy. Your love and laughter will forever echo in our hearts.
