Lila Miles Blocker, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 10th. Born a twin on April 21, 1938, at Mary Telfair Hospital in Savannah, Georgia, Lila was the daughter of Edgar and Evelyn Miles of Pembroke, Ga. She graduated from Pembroke High School in 1956 and soon moved to Savannah, where she lived at the YWCA while working at L B Price Mercantile Company.
It was in Savannah that she met the love of her life, Durward Lamont Blocker of Cobbtown, Ga. They were married on June 29, 1958, at First Baptist Church of Pembroke in a beautiful double wedding ceremony shared with her twin sister, Ella(Sissy), who married James Harry Lewis.
Lila was a true Southern belle—always elegant, always polished, and always prepared with a smile and a pound cake for anyone in need. She was known for her impeccable style, her hair was always done, her lipstick perfect, even while doing yardwork—her favorite pastime. If you heard the hum of a leaf blower, the sound of the lawnmower, or caught a hint of smoke, you knew Lila was nearby, tending to her yard with pride and purpose.
She was known to have a lead foot, speeding her way through life at full tilt—90 to nothing everywhere she went.
She adored shopping with Sissy, and together they were often found closing down the mall, sharing laughter and stories between dressing rooms and department store counters. Their bond was a gift and a joy to everyone who knew them.
Lila was also a night owl by nature, often up into the early hours of the morning “piddling” around the house, vacuuming, ironing or talking on the phone with Sissy or her brother Billy.
Lila faithfully served in many roles at Richmond Hill First Baptist Church over the years and came to faith as a young girl, baptized at First Baptist Church of Pembroke. Her devotion to Christ shaped her life and legacy.
She is survived by her two sons, Keith Blocker (Elizabeth) of Marathon, FL, and Greg Blocker (Katie) of Hayesville, NC; four grandchildren, Ashley Holland (Stephen), Tyler Blocker-Maggioni (Craig), Grayson Blocker, and Olivia Blocker; and two great-grandchildren, Wyatt Holland and Lila Holland.
She was a loving and faithful wife, devoted mother, and the most cherished “Nana.” Lila is now joyfully reunited in heaven with her Mother that she has so deeply missed since she was 9 years old (what a reunion that will be), her beloved Durward, her Sissy, her brother’s Billy, Thomas, Jimmie and many dear loved ones she’s missed for so long.
Lila’s presence will be deeply missed, but her vibrant spirit, grace, and the love she gave so freely will live on in all who knew her. We rejoice knowing that heaven is a little brighter now that she is HOME.
The family will receive friends at Flanders Powell Funeral Home in Pembroke on June 13th from 6pm-8pm. Service will be held at the funeral home at 3pm on Saturday, June 14th officiated by Pastor Michael Lewis, with burial to immediately follow in Northside Cemetery. Pallbearer will be Mark Lewis, Stephen Holland, Grayson Blocker, Craig Maggioni, Wyatt Holland, & Kenny Jones. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to Regency Hospice, 350 South Main Street, Hiawassee, GA 30546 or Stonehenge Senior Living, 168 Stonehenge Drive, Blairsville, GA 30512 in memory of Lila Blocker.

Mrs. Lila Blocker was one of a kind. She was a true Southern Lady. I have so many wonderful memories of Lila and the Blockers from when they were our nextdoor neighbors. Keith and Greg were a handful, especially Greg, and she knew how to handle them! I know she will be greatly missed but she leaves behind such a legacy. My thoughts and prayers are with the Blocker family and friends.
