Lucille Bromberek Obituary

Lucille Bromberek, nee Hodges, age 100, of Lemont, IL, passed away on Tuesday, June 03, 2025.

Preceded by her parents, Lawrence (Jennie Lee) Hodges; her husband, Edward; and her siblings, Willard, Paul, Harold, Maynard, Robert, Georgie, Virginia, Betty Jane, and Annie Lou.

She is survived by her children, Faye, Jennifer, and Larry; her grandchildren, Beau, Cassandra, Nicole (Brian), Heather, Edward, and Cory; her great-grandchildren, Jake, Eric, Zach, Tyler, John, Erica, Brianna, Samantha, Brian, Blake, Bella, Boe, and Brayah. Also, numerous nieces, and nephews.

Lucille came to Lemont, from Ohio when she was fifteen years old.  After she married her husband Ed, they started a successful flagstone business and raised their family in the home they built.  Ed and Lucille loved to bring family and friends to their vacation home in Islesboro, Maine.  After Ed's death, Lucille started to travel and collect cookie jars from around the country.  In 1975 she opened the first Cookie Jar Museum in the country.  Lucille had become the subject of many newspaper and magazine articles.  She appeared on numerous television shows, and was invited to be a guest on David Letterman, and Johnny Carson, but declined because she no longer liked to travel.  Lucille loved her adopted hometown of Lemont and its people.  Her family was blessed to have had her for so long, that even her thirteen great-grandchildren were able to know and love her.  Lucille was a unique, interesting, funny, one-of-a-kind lady. She touched many lives in her 100 years.

Visitation will be held Monday, June 09, 2025, at Markiewicz Funeral Home, P.C., 108 Illinois St., Lemont, IL 60439, from 4:00 p.m - 8:00 p.m., and on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, from 9:00 a.m., until time of funeral services at 10:15 a.m.  Going in procession from the funeral home to Mt. Vernon Memorial Estates, Lemont, IL for interment.

I am sorry for the loss of your Mom and Grandma and great Grandma. She had a rich life surrounded by loved ones. Sounds like a good life with many good memories to hang on to especially when your heart starts missing her.

When my Mom and Dad started building a house in Lemont back in the late 1980's, one of the first places my Dad would tell us about was the Cookie Jar Museum. I knew Lemont was going to be a great place to live if it had a museum full of cookie jars!

Fly high Lucille! May God wrap His arms around you!
