Mrs. Lucille Jones Funderburk Loomis, 92, of Mullins, went to be with her Lord and Savior, during the afternoon of August 6, 2025, after a period of declining health, while at Senior Care of Marion, with her family at her side.
Mrs. Loomis was born on October 31, 1932, in Mullins, South Carolina, the daughter of the late Duncan Ernest Jones and the late Gertrude Johnson Jones. Ms. Lucille was a former member of the Mullins-Marion Original Freewill Baptist Church of Mullins. Mrs. Loomis was a member of the Blessed Hope Church of Dillon. Ms. Lucille was a Sunday School teacher. She loved working in her yard, planting bushes and flowers; she loved her yard looking nice. Lucille also enjoyed her grapevine, where she was thrilled at seeing her two daughters, Brenda and Ozell at the grapevine pulling the grapes and filling their baskets. She said, “It made it worth it all.” Ms. Lucille worked many jobs over the years; she was last employed with the Marion School District as a cafeteria manager at Marion High School until she retired at the age of 72. Ms. Lucille also enjoyed singing, from hymns in church to little tunes on her kitchen radio, she always made a joyful noise. She was loved and thought kindly of by her family and friends, she will be deeply missed.
Mrs. Loomis is survived in death by her children: Martha Rae “Mott” (Don) Griffin of Monroe, NC, Ozell Funderburk (James “Buddy”) Page of Mullins, and Marty (Katie) Loomis of Galivants Ferry; two special granddaughters: Christina H. Page and Susan Page Myers; her grandson, Chuck; her great grandsons: Justin H., Andrew H., Joey P., and Gavin M.. also 19 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren, 69 great, great grandchildren, and 7 great, great, great grandchildren; her special grandchildren: Wendall, Brelyn, Lucy, Alicia, and Misty Dawn; along with many nieces and nephews, especially her favorite niece, Betty Ruth, who kept up with her over the years.
Mrs. Loomis is preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Oscar James Funderburk, her second husband, Bernie Wendell Loomis, her six brothers: J.T., Ernest, Grafton, R.L., Ralph, and Harry Jones, two sisters, Joann Odom and Maggie Sawyer; 3 daughters, Geraldine (Joe) Rhinehart, Barbara Ann (Dean) Oxendine, and Brenda (Steve) Huggins, and two grandsons: Gregg Page and Triston Loomis.
The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon, August 17, 2025, from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Cox-Collins Funeral Home.
Services for Mrs. Loomis will follow in the Chapel at 3:00 P.M. with the Reverend Thad Jacobs and Reverend Malcolm Woodall officiating. The family will lay Mrs. Loomis to rest in Red Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery following the service.
