Mary Hahn Obituary

Mary Ellen Hahn, 93, of Dresden, died Sunday evening, July 13, 2025, with her loving family at her side at Clay Gardens Place, Zanesville.

Born April 21, 1932, in Muskingum County, she was a daughter of the late George and Virginia (Shaw) McGlade and a 1950 graduate of Jefferson High School.  Mary Ellen was a banker and loan officer at First Trust and Savings, now known as Park National Bank in Dresden.  She worked there for 45 years, extending loans and making dreams a reality for many people in her community.  She was a lifelong member of Dresden United Methodist Church, where she held the financial secretary position for the church over 50 years.  Mary Ellen loved all animals, reading, and tending to her vegetable garden and flower beds.  Mary Ellen enjoyed a competitive card game of Hausey, and watching all sports, it brought her most joy to watch her great grandchildren play basketball, softball and soccer.  She loved the water, whether it was at their cabin on the Muskingum River or at her favorite summer beach at Topsail Island, NC, you could find her relaxing and reading a book.  Back in 2012 Mary Ellen was part of a 10 weeklong league with four other ladies at the Dresden Senior Center that placed 2nd in the National Wii Bowling Championship.  Mary Ellen took pride in her family and church, she was known as the “Noodle Lady” during the Longaberger Basket Bee Days, when she oversaw the noodles at the Methodist Church Luncheons.  She was an avid football fan, she loved watching all college and pro football teams.  When given, Mary Ellen took every opportunity to go to Wheeling Casino and play the slot machines.

Surviving is her son, David (Elaine) Hahn; daughter, Kathy (Charlie) Sidwell; five granddaughters, Alexis (Damien) Kieran, Allison (Jeremy) Camp, Molly Hahn, Kelsey Sidwell (Ryan) Leach, and Shayna (Matthew) Gibson; four great grandchildren, Ryley (Zoey Zeman) Gibson, Madeline and Maria Gibson, and Arthur Camp; a special cousin, Pearleene Reffitt; lifelong best friend, Jeanne Senter; daughter-in-law, Cathy Hahn; sister-in-law, Ruth Untied; her feline boys, Andrew and Jackson; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Hahn, who died December 23, 2011; a son, Bob Hahn, who died a little over a year ago on, March 16, 2024; great grandson, Henry Camp and sister, Jackie Matthews.

The family would like to extend a warm thank you to Shrivers Hospice, the staff at Clay Gardens Place and the therapists that saw her from Summit Healthcare.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Shelter Society, 1430 Newark Road, Zanesville, Ohio 43701 or any wildlife fund of your choice.

So very sorry to hear this. My sincere heartfelt condolences Kathy and Charley and the entire Hahn family. Mary Ellen was a childhood staple for me. She and my sister Jeanne were true buds. The last I saw her was at the 2019 Jefferson alumni banquet when she and Sis sat together! It was so cool to see them laughing and joking! On my recent visit home I kept looking for her when visiting Sis but regretfully did not have a chance to say hi. She will truly be missed. So sorry! Love and blessings to all.
