Mr. George James Curry entered into rest on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2025 at Williams Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 am. George James Curry of Augusta, Georgia, was born on April 24, 1948. A proud graduate of T.W. Josey High School, Class of 1967, George was known for his steady presence, strong work ethic, and deep love for his family.
He was married to Rosa Mae Scurry with whom he shared a life built on love and commitment, and out of this union came two beautiful daughters. He dedicated thirty-nine and a half years to the Pepsi Company as a forklift driver; faithfully providing for those he loved. Whether walking along Bobby Jones Expressway or Wrightsboro Road, John remained a quiet, familiar figure in his community: humble, dependable, and decent.
George was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Mae (2000), daughter, Joyce Jones (2024), niece, Quanda Ball (2024), and son-in-law, Derrico (2024).
George’s legacy is one of resilience, integrity, and quiet strength. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the blessing of knowing him. He is survived by: a daughter, Michelle Marie Derrico; mother, Mary E. Jefferson; grandsons, Gregory Derrico II and Gregory Derrico III; granddaughters, Rochelle Makayla Jones, JaNiya Marie Jones; sisters, Wynona Ball of Augusta, Georgia; son-in-law, Henry Jones of Augusta, Georgia; aunts, Carrie Lue Douglas of Augusta, Georgia and Mary Jane Scurry of Spartanburg, South Carolina. He is also survived by his extended family: brother, John T. (Kathy) Jones of Baxley, Georgia and Bernard (Mary) Jones of Augusta, Georgia; sisters, Maxine (Harold) Vaughn, Dr. Carol (Bruce) Yancy of Augusta, Georgia, Gloria Jones of Augusta, Georgia, Betty Jones of Augusta, Georgia, Connie (James) Shephard of Tampa, Florida, and Bernice Oliphant of Augusta. Mr. Curry may be viewed on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 from 1:00 pm until 6:00 pm at the funeral home.
