Mrs. Patsy Manning Harris, age 82, a resident of Waterford Place, died peacefully on Sunday morning, July 13, 2025 at her home.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday July 15, 2025 at the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home in Washington officiated by Thomas Hamilton. A private burial will follow. Archie Griffin, Hudson Smith, Dawson Smith, Blaine Horton, Steve Griffin and Benny “Joby” Griffin will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00, one hour prior to the service, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington.
Patsy was born in Martin County on April 15, 1943, daughter of the late James W. Manning and Mildred Leggett Griffin. Her father was killed in action during World War II. Several years later, her mother married Archie Griffin, and he treated Patsy as his own daughter. Patsy was a 1961 graduate of Williamston High School where she was an excellent basketball player. On June 3, 1961, she married Robert H. Harris who preceded her in death on July 25, 2009. Although Patsy did not work outside of the home, except on the farm helping her brother, Steve, she was a caregiver at heart for many. Patsy was a long-time member of Old Ford Church of Christ. In recent months due to her health, she had attended Journey Church.
Patsy enjoyed meals and fellowship with The Golden Girls, The Merry Widows and breakfast and coffee with the various restaurants in town.
Patsy is survived by her son: William “Will” Harris of Seattle, WA; her brothers: Benny “Joby” Griffin and wife, Carolyn; Steve Griffin and wife, Pam and her sister: Shelia Moore and husband, Larry; and special “sister”: Alice Harris as well as many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: The Blind Center, P.O. Box 491, Washington, NC 27889, the Benevolence Committee of your church or help someone in need.
The family would like to thank all the residents of Waterford Place that looked in on her and shared meals with her during the last couple of weeks as her health deteriorated and Gentiva Hospice. The residents of Waterford Place were the nicest “neighborhood watch” anyone could ask for.
Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington is honored to serve the Harris family.
