Patty was born on May 20, 1935, the daughter of Howard and Marie (Gorsuch) Tumey in Good Hope, Illinois. She graduated Wilton High School with the Class of 1952. Patty married Howard J. Sorgenfrey on November 2, 1952 in Wilton. Howard passed away on January 18, 2013.
Patty devoted her life to her family, faith, and community. She worked as an Administrative Assistant with the Jones County USDA Farm Service Agency for twenty years, retiring in 2001. Alongside her professional career, she was deeply involved in supporting her husband, Howard, on the family farm.
A woman of strong faith, Patty was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Wilton, where she actively participated in many church organizations. Her commitment to service extended beyond the church, as she was a member of IASCOE and NASCOE, the American Legion Auxiliary, and gave her time as a Hospice Volunteer.
Patty’s greatest joy was her family. She treasured time spent with her loved ones and could always be found attending family gatherings and activities. In her leisure time, Patty was an enthusiastic Iowa Hawkeye fan, rarely missing an opportunity to watch and support her favorite team.
Patty will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Barb (Bruce) Jipp of Wilton, and Melody (Todd) Lineburg of Mount Vernon, Iowa; three sons, Murray (LuAnne) Sorgenfrey of Tipton, Iowa, Terry (Gaby) Sorgenfrey of Savoy, Illinois and Jerry (Kim) Sorgenfrey of Wyoming, Iowa, eighteen grandchildren, Jennifer, Alicia, Brad, Chris, Kyle, Anna, Elyse, Shanon, Shelly, Trent, Austin, Mary Pat, Hayden, Emma, Kayla, Cameron, Lance and Noah; thirty three great grandchildren, Grace, Jacob, Ella, Henry, Bo, Carver, Liam, Sophie, Kolby, Lola, Marlow, Leo, Shea, Quinn, Evelia, Luca, Emilie, Jackson, Lucas, Ashlynn, Kailey, McKinley, Gavin, Addy, Tristin, Paycee, Brooks, Lincoln, Monroe, Callie, Jack, Lane, and Tate; five great-great grandchildren, Conner, Tucker, Hayden, Hunter, and Myles; and two sisters in-law, Phyllis Tumey and Janet Tumey.
