Jim and I enjoyed talking with Rev. Deck. They had some authors in common and Rev. Deck shared them with Jim. He knew so much on the Bible and its background. We will miss him. God Bless Him.

I'm ever grateful to Ron and Darlene for the kindness they showed me when I was newly widowed. I was especially thrilled to join them on a few of their "soul food" trips to the Paulina market neighborhood of Chicago. He is dearly loved and deeply missed.

Just earlier today, I had shared the story about how Pastor Deck invited me to deliver the sermon on a rare Sunday he would be away. This was at Saint Michael’s (Richmond, Indiana) when I was just 17 years old. He worked with me on composition and delivery. He encouraged me to consider the ordained ministry, which had just opened up to women in the LCA. My call, however, was to a different Vineyard. I have been a Catholic sister in the Order of Preachers for 28 years. I am grateful to him beyond words, for being my confirmation pastor and for his belief that I could be a credible preacher. My prayers and sympathy for Darlene and the family. He was a very special man.

I will deeply miss Ron Deck. After Ron's retirement, the congregation at First United Lutheran in Hammond was blessed to have Rev. Ron and Darlene Deck as members for many years. I had the honor and privilege of collaborating with Pastor Deck in the production of several Good Friday cantatas going back to 2014. His powerful speaking voice (James Earl Ray had nothing over Ron Deck!) along with his deep personal understanding of the scripture provided the drama and emotional impact to turn our Good Friday Cantatas into lifelong memories for so many. He will be forever remembered fondly.by so many.
