With heavy hearts, we're sorry to announce the passing of Tommy Collom.
Tommy is survived by his brother George, his sons Danny, Tommy, and Jamie, many nieces and nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Many folks knew Tommy from his 50 years of working at United Markets in their nursery department, helping thousands of folks create beautiful gardens with his amazing horticultural knowledge.
He was the owner of Grow Rite Nursery in Cotati where he won several awards for his entries in the Sonoma County Fair for his displays and amazing begonias. Tommy mentored several people who worked under him in the Nursery Business and taught a couple of semesters at the College of Marin. He was also appreciated for his wild sense of humor, brutal honesty, and compassion.
The family will be having a celebration of life in both Marin and Sonoma Counties. If you are interested in joining the celebrations, please email [email protected].

I love you and will miss you, but I know you are with Star and your grandson now. I will never forget everything you taught me in the 13 years I was with you at United Nursery. You accepted me and my little family in 1994 and made me feel like we were part of your extended family. You pushed me in 2007 to leave United and start my career as a Correctional Officer at San Quentin. You gave me advice and mentorship like a second father. I cannot express the enormous gratitude I have for you. My life has only gotten brighter for knowing you and feeling the love you gave me. It is with a heavy heart that I say good bye to you in this mortal world, but I know I will see you in the next.
