Deron McMullen Obituary

DERON SCOTT MCMULLEN, 59, born on September 26, 1965, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2025. He was the beloved son of Anna Huffman Waugh and William McMullen, and was preceded in death by his father, Bill, and his stepfather, James Waugh. Deron is survived by his three children, Tanner McMullen, Brooklyn (Ryan) Seidewitz, and Brianna McMullen, all of whom he cherished deeply. He took immense pride in his four grandchildren Brynlee McMullen, Bodhi McMullen, Ayla Seidewitz, and Elias Seidewitz who brought him immeasurable joy. Additionally, Deron is survived by his sister, Debbie (Rajiv) Jain, his niece, Julie (Josh) Caldwell and his nephew, Justin Stark, along with numerous close and special cousins. He is also remembered fondly by his stepmother, Janet McMullen, and a special friend, Becky Elswick, who enriched his life in countless ways.
Deron possessed an infectious smile and a warmth that naturally drew people to him. He cultivated many friendships throughout his life, treating each one with the same love and respect he showed his family. He earned both his Bachelor of Business Administration and Master's in Business Administration with a focus on safety from Marshall University. His professional journey included formidable tenures with FedEx and S&S Tire, where he not only excelled in his career but also formed lasting bonds with many colleagues.
Beyond his professional life, Deron passionately devoted his time to coaching his children in youth sports, illustrating his commitment to fostering their passions and skills. An avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and UK basketball, he cherished watching the games with his family. Creating memories with his kids and grandkids was of utmost importance to him, and he took great pleasure in making his mother, Anna, smile.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to UPMC in Pittsburgh for the exceptional care and compassion they provided Deron over the years. For 28 years Deron suffered from PSC, a rare, chronic and progressive liver disease he fought bravely enduring two transplants.
Visitation at Madison Avenue Christian Church in Huntington, WV will be held on Friday, January 31, at 2 p.m., with funeral proceedings immediately thereafter. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to PSC Partners Seeking A Cure to honor Deron's memory and PSC battle. Reger Funeral Home, Huntington, is assisting the family with the services.
