Frances Lowery Obituary

Gone from our sight, but forever near, In the hearts of those who held you dear. A gentle soul, with a spirit so bright, now rests in peace, in Heaven's light. Frances Louise Smith Lowery was born on October 18, 1943, to the late Arthur Lee Smith, Sr. and Margaret Virginia Tanner. She received her formal education and played girls' basketball at Howard High School class of 1961. Frances accepted Christ as her savior at an early age. She was a member of Greater Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the usher board and regularly attended Sunday School Women's Class #3. She was employed at Signature Brands. LLC for over 35 years before retirement. In her leisure time she enjoyed her family, watching Orlando Magic basketball, traveling (Dove Travelers & Family Outings), and word search puzzles. "Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection and the Life; he that beliveth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die, "beliveth thou this?" John: 25-27 KJV On March 10, 2025, Frances Smith Lowery answered the Lord's call peacefully as she transitioned into her heavenly home. She is preceded in death by her husband Samuel Lowery, Sr., her brother Arthur Lee Smith, Jr. and her grandson, Cedric Thornton. Those left to cherish her memories, her daughters, Tremese Durden (Clarence), Cassandra Thornton (Wesley); sons, Charles Thornton, Jr (Eugenia), Jerald Thornton (Zenise) and Gary Thornton Sr (Danielle); grandchildren, Selena, Jonny, Octavis, Lawfus Jr., Kevin, Brittany, Byron, Quinton, Desirea, Chaquanda, Trimeka, Joshua, Keausha, Arthur, Nyah, Devin, Gary, Jr., Geontre and Isaiah; 35 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; nieces, De'Anne Smith, and N'Shelle Israel; a host of cousins and sorrowing friends. Rest now, dear mother, in endless peace, your legacy of love will never cease. Until we meet again, you'll live forever, in a sacred place.
