F. McIntee Obituary

Pat was born March 27, 1927, son of Eugene "Owen" and Zeta (Lammers) McIntee. He died July 2, 2025 in Canton, Michigan.
Pat grew up on a farm near Parma, Michigan, graduated from Albion High School in 1945 and was a graduate of Michigan State University in 1950 with a degree of Mechanical Engineering. Pat married J. Coralynn Goodrich August 13, 1949 at St. Mary's Star of the Sea church in Jackson, Michigan.
Between 1951 and 1953, Pat served as an Army 2nd Lieutenant at Ft. Bliss, Texas with the first
Guided Missile Battalion. Pat was a training officer for the Army, specifically for the operation of Nike missiles (surface-to-air missile systems) which were deployed in locations throughout the US to protect from Russian bombers during the Cold War.
Pat worked at Chrysler from 1953 to 1989. His first 11 years were at the Chrysler Guided Missile Division, initially with the Redstone Arsenal Mechanical Laboratory. This work provided a critical foundation for the early years of space flight as well as the later, manned suborbital flights. Pat's last 25 years were with Chrysler's Automotive Division where he had various management assignments.
Pat and his wife Coralynn lived in the Royal Oak/Ferndale area for 29 years, where they were active members of the Ferndale St. James church. Pat and Coralynn were successful parents for their eight children, mostly due to their commitment of presenting a united front, having each other's back and always communicating.
The house in Ferndale was large enough for the growing family of ten. Being on a double lot, there was plenty of room for a family garden. Pat also used the back and side yards to construct what was often used as a playground not only for their family, but for what seemed at times to be the entire neighborhood, including a blacktop which served as a basketball, tennis, volleyball or badminton court, with tetherball, swings, high jump and a croquet course. In the winter, the blacktop would be hosed down to make an ice rink. Despite his busy years and often long hours at Chrysler, Pat would try to attend many of the sporting events his children participated in and made it a point to come home for dinner every evening. He'd make an effort to touch base with each of his children during the shared meal or before they went to bed.
After all the children had married, moved, or were away at college, Pat and Coralynn left Ferndale for Ann Arbor in 1982 to be closer to Pat's final assignment at Chrysler - Chief Engineer of the Chrysler Proving Grounds. After retirement, Pat volunteered at St. Mary's Student Parish Church in Ann Arbor and student center doing a variety of repair projects. As well as being a member of the Ann Arbor senior golf league and learning how to swim (something he never learned to do as a child), Pat and Coralynn were avid square dancers. They bought an RV and spent several years criss-crossing the country, enjoying each other's company 24/7, seeing the sights, staying at national parks, visiting friends and their rapidly expanding family, and attending national square dancing conventions.
After their legs started to give out, Pat and Coralynn traded the RV life for attending occasional Elderhostel/Road Scholar programs, gardening and frequent visits by their numerous children/ grandchildren/great grandchildren. Anticipating a future of limited mobility, Pat re-ignited his engineering soul and embarked on a multi-year project of gradually remodeling their Ann Arbor home with ramps and wider doors, so they could stay in their home as long as possible. Their final years together were at assisted living in Ypsilanti and Canton, Michigan. Pat is predeceased by his beloved wife Coralynn (2024).
Pat had five brothers, all deceased: Herbert, Eugene, Robert, Vincent/(Pauline) and Lawrence/
(Jean). He is survived by seven children: Brian/(Jan-deceased) of Trenton MI, Barry/(Cathy) of Troy MI, Teresa/(Reuben Peterson) of Modesto CA, Mark/(Sally) of Chapel Hill NC, Patricia/ (Richard Vega) of Genoa OH, Diane/(James Frazier) of Camarillo CA and Timothy/(Karen) of Canton MI. He is predeceased by his son, Vincent (1988).
Pat and Coralynn have 17 grandchildren: Alissa/(Matt Rennie), Mark/(Sarah), Erin/(Jose Carmona), Paul, Nicholas, Sarah, Collen/(Eric Gunn), Corinne/(Tim Cerceres), Jackie/(Bob Spengler), Thomas Peterson/(Trisha), Shea, Tomas, Ricky Vega, Niki Vega, Olivia/(Mike Chen), Grace, Elise/(Jonathan Dobis) and 19 great grandchildren: Evelyn, Norah, Emma, Sophie, Greyson, Elijah, Jonas, Zeke, Violet, Thomas, Cora, Katie, Daniel, James, Marie, Calvin, Marc, Mireya, Finneas, as well as numerous nieces/nephews.
Funeral Mass will be at 10am on August 2, 2025 at St. Mary's Student Parish Church (reception to follow). Interment of ashes will be at Riverside Cemetery in Albion MI at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Mary's Student Parish Church.
