Shirley Russell Obituary

The Plains Shirley Ann Russell, 82, of The Plains, Ohio, passed away on Monday, June 9, 2025, after a brief illness. She was born on November 7, 1942, in Athens, the daughter of the late Paul E. and Florence (Cagg) Linton of Nelsonville. Shirley graduated from Buchtel High School in 1960 and had been employed by the Athens Mental Health Center, Doctors Hospital of Nelsonville, and the Nova Learning Center.

Shirley loved to crochet and work in her flower bed. She was devoted to her grandchildren and especially her great-grandchildren, taking them to various after-school and summer activities.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Paula (Paul) Russell Glass of Wesley Chapel, Florida; grandchildren Dustin (Shelby) Handley of Junction City, Ohio and Dawn (Andy Franz) Handley of Millfield, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Faith, Brandon, Parker, Sydney, Luna, and twin baby boys; sister, Joy (Max) Hemsley of Glouster; sister-in-law, Sherrie Linton of Nelsonville; niece, Christy Linton of Mansfield; and nephew, Jayson Linton of Orlando, Florida.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by two brothers, James and David; her partner, George Misner; and nephew, Craig Linton.

As per her wishes, Shirley was cremated and there will be a private service for family and friends at a later date.
