Anita Gonzalez Obituary

SAINT JOHNS – Anita Gonzalez passed away March 22, 2025. Her cremated remains will be interred at Key West Cemetery in Key West later this year.
Born March 11, 1937, in Key West, Anita was the eldest daughter of Agatha Johnson Sierra and Ralph Sierra Sr.
She briefly attended elementary school in Key West before her family moved to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, in October 1947. She continued her schooling there until she graduated from Guantanamo Bay Naval Operating Base School in 1956.
After high school, Anita attended the University of Florida for several years, returning to Key West and working at the Naval Exchange. She soon transferred to the Department of Defense, Data Processing Department at the Naval Air Station, where she retired as computer specialist with 30 years of service.
After retiring, Anita moved to Deltona in 1992, and soon became involved with the Greater Orange City Area Chamber of Commerce, employed as the assistant to the director until 2006.
In 2024, she moved to Saint Johns to be closer to family.
Anita was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Sierra, and wife, Naomi, of Kernersville, North Carolina; one daughter, Cynthia Blanco of Deltona; one grandson, Julio Blanco of Deltona; and one son-in-law, Daniel McCommon of Saint Johns.
She is survived by a sister, Dolores Adams (Mike) of Palmetto Bay; a brother, Ralph Sierra Jr. (Margaret) of Herndon, Virginia; a son, Richard Gonzalez (Paula) of Johns Creek, Georgia; a daughter, Kathryn McCommon of Saint Johns; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many nephews, nieces, cousins and dear friends.
