Max Warren Helms passed away peacefully on October 14, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 16, 1940 in Hinton Township, to Glenn Warren Helms and Ellen Cecilia Kelley.
Max was a hardworking man who spent his life in the pipeline construction industry. A proud journeyman welder and superintendent for Welded Construction, he was a dedicated member of Local Union 798. Known for his strong work ethic, Max took pride in every job he did - from welding pipelines to cutting grass. He often said, "I can do anything; I'm a pipeline welder."
He married the love of his life, Susan, on February 28, 1959. Together they built a beautiful life and raised two sons, Kevin and Scott Helms.
Max was an active and faithful member of the Sylvester Community Church, where he took charge of the church remodel and did a wonderful job bringing it to life. Max was also a member of Masonic Lodge 454 and The Order of the Eastern Star. He was outgoing, enjoyed good conversation, and never met a stranger. Max and Susan enjoyed pontoon rides on Lake Mecosta and spending their winters in Davenport Florida, where they made many dear friends.
He cherished his family above all else - especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him endless joy.
Max is survived by his beloved wife, Susan; sons Kevin (Paula) Helms and Scott (Tracey) Helms; sisters, Glenna Adams and Margaret Hagen; grandchildren, Tyler (Erin Mitchell) Helms, Chad (Vicki) Hall, Shawn Hall, Ashley (Austin) Jackson, Parker (Hannah) Helms, Jack Helms; and great-grandchildren, Penelope, Sienna, Eliza, and Sunday.
Funeral services will be held at Sylvester Community Church on Friday October 17, 2025, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Richard Taylor officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Max will be remembered for his faith, his leadership, his craftsmanship, and the love he shared with everyone who knew him.
