Elaine died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on May 11, 2025.

Elaine Eleanor Fenton, daughter of George and Thelma (Edwards) Fenton, was born on December 22, 1945, in the Killdeer Hotel. She was raised in the Killdeer area and also received her education there, graduating from Killdeer High School in 1963.

On September 24, 1962, Elaine was united in marriage to Sid Stromme. They eloped and were married in St. Anthony, Idaho. Together they raised their four children, Mary, Lesley, Shawn, and Warren on their ranch south of Dunn Center. Over the years, Elaine worked as a clerk for the family auction business, and for a time at Western Livestock in Dickinson. Later she worked at the Hilltop Home of Comfort in Killdeer, and after Sid and Elaine moved to Montana she was employed by Pierry Manufacturing for several years before retiring.

Elaine had various hobbies, but she loved to travel, and Sid and Elaine were fortunate enough to be able to travel across the United States and Canada, in 2010 to Israel, and in 2012 to Norway. Her last trip across the ocean was to Scotland in 2023 with her sisters and other family members.

What brought Elaine the most joy was time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by her husband, Sid Stromme, Wilton; her children, Mary Stromme, Grand Forks, Lesley (John) Schmitt, Anaconda, Mont., Shawn (Heather) Stromme, Hazen, and Warren (Amy) Stromme, Billings, Mont.; her 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson; her sisters, Lois Bang, Killdeer and Jane (Bob) Schettler, Killdeer; and she is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Thelma (Edwards) Fenton; her sister, Carol Nygaard; and brothers-in-law, Dave Nygaard and Thorvald Bang.
