Karen S. Rothmann

February 8, 1946 - August 31, 2025

Karen S. Rothmann, 79, of Washburn, passed away on July 31st in A Dickinson Nursing Facility.

As per Karen's wish cremation has taken place, A private funeral service will be held at First Lutheran Church, Washburn, with Pastor Paul Kreuger presiding. A time of lunch and fellowship will held in the basement of the church for all family members and friends at 1 p.m., on Tuesday August 5th.

Karen was born February 8, 1946, to Donald and Delores (Clark) Rodgers. She grew up on the farm in rural Washburn. She attended rural school for eight years before going to Washburn Public school where she graduated in 1964. Upon graduating high school Karen attended Dickinson State College, now Dickinson State University and graduated in 1968. While in college Karen was elected to the cheerleading squad. Karen married Lowell Rothmann on March 18, 1967. In 1968, she began teaching at Bottineau Public Schools until 1970. In 1970, she started teaching at what was then known as NDSU- Bottineau Branch. While at the college she developed a Parks and Recreation curriculum as well as being the Varsity girl's basketball coach and Athletic Director. In 1975, she and Lowell moved to Washburn eventually purchasing the Rothmann family farm. In 1979 she was given the opportunity to become an elementary teacher in Washburn, a position she held until retiring in 2008. Children were always the center of her life and she was so happy to be able to teach for 36 years. She and Lowell purchased a home in Sun Lakes, Arizona, where they wintered together 17 years.

Karen was a sports enthusiast, and was always happy to be able watch her children and then grandchildren participate. She and Lowell attended a MLB All Star game in Arizona as well as a World Series game. They also took many baseball bus tours that allowed them to get to all 30 MLB ball parks.

Karen is survived by her husband, Lowell of 58 years. She is also survived by her daughter, Trisha (John) Getz, of Dickinson, N.D.; her daughter in law Nicole Rothmann of Westerville, Ohio; and grandchildren Nicholas and Alison Rothmann of Ohio, and Kylie and Talon Getz of Dickinson, N.D.
